By the beginning of October Shayler had moved to Colorado to start his new job. I decided to stay behind until Thanksgiving to find a replacement for my position and train the new person. Two weeks later, I hit a stupid deer and totaled my car...and it was the new one we just bought in June that replaced my Celica. Here's the story.
The evening after work I stopped by Honey Baked Ham to get some moving boxes, since they are the best ones. I went along my merry way singing along with the radio music, and out of nowhere I saw a deer flying out of some bushy trees from the left corner of my eye. I slammed on my breaks and didn't see it again and thought, "whew I missed it!" Then...BAM! The stupid deer hit the side of my car, landed on my windshield, and then hopped off. I didn't even feel it hit the side of the car since it happened so fast.
I pulled over and called the police. While I was on the phone, a sweet lady and her kids from my ward recognized me, and pulled over. They waited the whole 2 hours for the police and tow truck to come, and gave me a ride home afterwards.
Where the deer hit the side of my car first,
then landed on my windshield.
The inside of the car
I had the visor down which hit my face but also protected it from the glass. It only gave me a little bruising and a few cuts from the shattered pieces. I was pretty lucky nothing else happened.
